What work does a furniture technician do?

Assembly and installation of new furniture

Wardrobes, beds, tables, chests of drawers, shelving and other ready-made furniture are assembled according to the model’s instructions. Components and fixings are checked, the frame is levelled, and door gaps and drawer movement are adjusted. Where wall anchoring is required, the wall type and suitable fixings are considered separately. Stability is an essential part of installing tall furniture.

Disassembly and reassembly

Furniture designed for disassembly can be taken apart for a move or room rearrangement, with fixings kept for reassembly at the new location. Older material, moisture damage or damage from previous assembly can affect whether it can be reassembled reliably. We assess this on inspection rather than promise that every piece can be dismantled without damage.

Door, drawer and mechanism repairs

Sagging wardrobe doors, sticking drawers, loose hinges, handles, runners and soft-close fittings are checked. Adjustment is carried out where suitable, or a compatible replacement part is selected. Sliding doors may need their rollers and guides inspected; sofa beds require assessment of both the opening mechanism and its attachments to the frame.

Frame and joint repairs

Wobbly tables and chairs, loose bed joints, damaged fixing points and supports are assessed for repair. If the material cannot support a safe repair, this is explained before work begins. Bespoke furniture manufacture and extensive reupholstery are separate requests whose availability must be confirmed.

How do we solve the problem?

Replacing a part based only on the visible symptom is not the starting point. A door that will not close may have an out-of-square frame as well as hinge trouble; a rubbing drawer may have an incorrectly positioned runner. The technician checks levelling, loading, joints and moving components together.

Following inspection, the repair method, required parts and price are agreed. Doors, drawers, locks and other mechanisms are tested after assembly or repair. Practical advice is provided on use and load distribution appropriate to the furniture.
